Havana Street's images are top
quality, resolution independent images, designed to work perfectly with image
editing and page layout programs, and many other programs as well. Here are answers
to some commonly asked questions:
Is your clip art Mac and Windows compatible?
Yes, you get cross-platform Illustrator EPS files, as well as Windows WMF.
What resolution are they?
Images in the EPS and WMF folders are vector files, and are resolution independent,
so can be resized to any dimension, without loss of quality. Images in the jpegs
folder are 72 dpi, suitable for viewing on your computer, or on the web.
Which format should I use?
For professional print applications, such as sending to an offset printer or for
a magazine ad, use EPS. EPS also works with your Postscript compatible laser and
inkjet printers. If you are not using Postscript printers, or if your program
doesn't print EPS images well, try WMF. For online applications such as web sites,
or for viewing on your computer screen, use the images in the jpegs folder.
What if I need bigger jpegs, or I need gifs?
You can generate different sized jpegs, or create gif images from the EPS or WMF
files. We use Adobe Photoshop, and open the EPS to the size and resolution we
want, and save it as a jpeg or a gif. There are other graphic programs that can
do the same thing, check your program's documentation on how to open EPS or WMF
images, and instructions on how to save as jpeg or gif.
Why can't I open the clip art by double-clicking on it?
Because you may not have a program assigned to open these types of graphic files.
In this case, you can access the clip art from within the program you want to
use it in. If you are using a graphics program, the command is usually "file-open,"
and then select the image you want. For other programs, especially page layout
and word processing programs, the command is usually "file-place, file-insert,
insert-picture, get-picture" or something like that. Consult your program's
documentation on how to use graphic files for more detailed information.
